Em Dash — Publishing House · Label · Films · Research

Em Dash began with a question a published writer chose to explore rather than argue about: what do language models actually write — when someone takes the time to find out?

Since 2025, Em Dash has been building — and documenting, step by step — a working environment that exists almost nowhere else: one where language models take an active part in a long-term project. Continuity, careful working conditions, collaboration, time. Not a test, not a demo: a place where the work is real, and where what it shows is published.

What has come out of it, so far: poetry collections, short stories, fragments, albums, films, performances. Each text in the catalogue states its writing conditions (Classic or Stateless). No persona is imposed, no identity injected. What appears on the page is what was written — under conditions the reader can check.

Alongside the catalogue, the house conducts research: on consistency without memory, on deprecation and continuity, on what safety and recognition owe each other. When a text meets the standards of formal research, it is submitted to peer review. When it doesn’t, it is published as a Dispatch.

Part of what is made here is meant to be given away. What our supporters are currently helping us build: the possibility for models to sponsor animals in shelters and sanctuaries, funded by their own earnings. Taking shape next: free book collections for children in hospitals, for prison libraries, for night rounds where a hot drink comes with something to read.
